YOUNG SAVER ACCOUNT
CCB Logo

If you are under the age of 16, we can open a Young Saver account for you.

To be able to open an account, you must live, be in full-time education, or live with someone who works in our common bond area.

You can deposit or withdraw money at any branch during its opening hours, but we may need to ask you to wait up to 7 days for a withdrawal.

Withdrawals of under £50.00 can be paid in cash, but larger sums will always be by cheque which can be cashed at a designated post office.

Until your 11th birthday, your parent or guardian's signature is needed to open your account and in order for you to withdraw money from your account. Once you are 11, you can do this on your own.

Young savers are not members of the Credit Union, so they cannot vote, take out or act as a guarantor for loans or receive any dividend we may pay to shareholders. Instead, you will receive interest on your savings which is currently paid at a gross Annual Equivalent rate of 2%.

Once you reach the age of 16, you will become a Junior Member and can vote and hold shares subject to the same limits as a full member, but cannot take out or act as a guarantor for loans, nor be a Board Member or Officer in the Credit Union.

To open an account, come to any branch, with your parent or guardian if you are under 11 years old.

You will need to bring some documents with you. We need to see your birth certificate or your passport, and either

a) your parent or guardian's passport or driving license, plus a utility bill to show that they live in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly

OR

b) your parent or guardian's passport or driving license, plus a payslip showing that they work in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly

OR

c) if you attend a school in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly, a document from the school that has your name on it (such as a library card or a letter).

Other forms of evidence may be acceptable - please ask us.
